Hello, my name is Noah Clarke. I originally became familiar with Starlink after signing up for the beta test. The house that I had just moved to didn't have many broadband internet options, only DSL. Starlink seemed like a good alternative. After using the service for some time, I noticed a need for tutorials and other information that could help people get the most out of the service. I started writing the Starlink Hardware blog in late 2021. At the time, I was an electronics technician. I have a bachelors of science degree in electronics engineering technology. My background in electronics and networking helped me create content about Starlink, answering common questions, and diving deep into modifications and other technical issues. Now, I write for Starlink Hardware full-time. My mission is to provide helpful information to Starlink users around the world.
Out with the old, in with the new. Starting today, another major Starlink market gets access to the next generation hardware. Starlink officially launched the 3rd generation “Starlink Standard” hardware kit in Australia, making it only the second country to have access to the new dish. Starlink originally released the Gen 3 Standard dish in the US back in December 2023. Initially, they offered customers a choice between the Gen 2 Standard Actuated hardware, and the new Gen 3 Standard dish. Several weeks after the initial launch, Starlink stopped offering the Standard Actuated model, and it’s no longer available in …
Starlink is satellite internet, using a dish on the ground to communicate with a constellation of thousands of satellites orbiting the Earth. With Starlink, you need a clear view of the sky to get reliable service. If there are trees or buildings blocking the view of the dish, you can experience interruptions. Starlink refers to these objects as obstructions. The Starlink app is your command center. You’ll find the status of your dish and router, as well as several different settings and options. One of the tools in the app is the obstruction map. The obstruction map allows you to …
Yesterday, police in Lawrence Township, New Jersey released details of a large scale fraud operation involving Starlink satellite internet kits. According to a press release posted on the LTPD Facebook page, a suspect is now behind bars for allegedly ordering hundreds of Starlink kits using stolen credit cards. Today’s news is a result of a three month investigation by LTPD detectives. It all started back in December of 2023, when police received a tip about a suspicious number of Starlink packages being delivered to a single-family residence. Police began surveillance of the residence, observing Starlink packages being loaded from the …
Starlink updated their online shop to include two new Gen 3 accessories, the Gen 3 Router Mount and Gen 3 Power Supply Mount. Both new products are installation accessories, designed to give you more flexibility in where you place the router and power supply. The new items appear at the top of the Gen 3 shop page. Besides the accessories that launched with the new Gen 3 hardware, these are the first new accessories to be revealed for Gen 3. Starlink started selling the new dish to US customers back in December 2023, with relatively few accessories compared to previous …
Starlink is incredibly popular in rural areas, allowing people to finally get connected with high speed broadband internet. Rural properties often have multiple structures, like garages, shops, and barns. It’s important to stay connected these days, no matter where you might be working on the property. I get this question all the time from readers: How do I get my Starlink Wifi signal from one building to another? The router that comes each Starlink kit only covers about 3,200 sq. ft. Most outbuildings are far away from the main house, making mesh systems and Wifi extenders impractical. In this guide, …
In many areas of the world, the demand for Starlink service is low, relative to places like the US and Canada. In response, Starlink offers unique incentives and discounts for select markets. These price adjustments are applied to the hardware, the monthly service fee, and sometimes even both. Usually, the incentives are only offered for a limited amount of time. Starlink is trying something different in New Zealand. They’ve created a new service plan, called Deprioritized Standard, which offers customers a steep discount in exchange for slower speeds. Plan details In New Zealand, normal Standard service costs $159/month. Opting instead …
A 13 word X post will go down in history as the first social media post made using Starlink’s Direct-to-Cell technology. Direct-to-Cell uses existing LTE phone hardware to communicate directly with Starlink satellites, eliminating the need for a bulky Starlink antenna. The official SpaceX account posted the message, and then Elon Musk shared it on his feed. The X post marks continued progress on the Starlink Direct-to-Cell system. Last month, SpaceX successfully sent the first text message using the system. Starlink wants to make the service available to customers later this year. Connecting LTE phones to Starlink satellites Starlink’s Direct-to-Cell …
Starlink satellite internet is a game changer for people in rural areas who don’t have access to high speed broadband services. It’s also great for digital nomads, RV travelers, and other people who like to escape to remote areas, but stay connected. I’ve had Starlink for about 3 years, and it’s allowed me to do things I was never able to do before. If you are reading this, you probably just received your Starlink kit. Or maybe you are still researching Starlink, and want to know if it’s hard to set it up. I created this guide to show people …
SpaceX announced that it plans to de-orbit approximately 100 early V1 Starlink satellites in the coming weeks. According to a Starlink press release, this controlled destruction of satellites is necessary to ensure responsible stewardship of space, and minimize the risk of collisions with other spacecraft in the future. “SpaceX has invested heavily in ensuring the safety and sustainability of our launch vehicles, spacecraft, and satellites,” said a SpaceX spokesperson. “This includes exceeding regulations and sharing best practices with the industry.” While all Starlink satellites are designed to naturally de-orbit within five years, SpaceX occasionally de-orbits those at increased risk of failure before the end …
Starlink has updated their account system to support multiple users. This new feature, previously reserved for enterprise customers, is now available for consumer accounts. Customers will now be able to add additional contacts to their account, like family members, a backup email address, or even tenants. In this article, I will go over the update, explaining what it means to add additional users to your Starlink account. I will also walk you through the process of adding an additional contact. Finally, I’ll cover some of the limitations and nuances you should know about. Starlink allows you to add contacts to …
