About me
I’m Colby, an electronics technician turned blogger and YouTuber. I created this website to share my knowledge of technology with fellow Starlink users.
My background
After earning a degree in Electronics Engineering Technology, I started working as a Biomedical Equipment Technician at a hospital. Think about your favorite medical TV show, and how the patients are often hooked up to complicated looking machines. Those are the devices I was responsible for repairing and maintaining.
I did that for 12 years, learning a ton about troubleshooting complicated electronics and technology. One of the things I enjoyed most was creating tutorials and other educational material for my coworkers and other hospital staff. Passing along my knowledge and experience was extremely rewarding.
Then, in 2020, Starlink changed my life. I first heard about Starlink after trying to find an alternative to my slow DSL internet service. It was the only internet option I could get at my house. I saw that Starlink was doing this “Better Than Nothing” beta program, so I signed up. They were offering speeds way faster than my old DSL service, so I thought what the heck, I have nothing to lose.
After a few months of waiting, I got my first Starlink dish in early 2021. I was one of the original beta testers of the service. I didn’t know it at the time, but my life would change forever with the round antenna that Starlink officially named, “Dishy McFlatFace”. For the first time I was able to stream TV shows and movies without buffering. I could finally download large game files, and upload my photos and videos to the cloud.
In the early days, Starlink didn’t offer much in the way of support or resources for customers. It was only in beta, after all. Since I was already used to creating tutorials and guides in my career as an electronics technician, I started a blog to do the same thing for Starlink customers. Starlink Hardware was launched in late 2021, and I transitioned to a full-time blogger in 2023.
creating starlink content
Thanks to my audience, I get to create Starlink content full-time on this blog and the YouTube channel. My electronics background, combined with my experience as a Starlink beta tester, put me in a unique position to offer my audience helpful information and insights about Starlink satellite internet.
